What is The Cooking School @ Market Bistro by Price Chopper?
  • The Cooking School @ Market Bistro by Price Chopper is a state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with hands-on cooking stations where you can learn to cook or expand your cooking expertise. Each station is fully stocked with appliances, knives, and cooking equipment designed to resemble a home kitchen so you can easily re-create what you learned at home.

What types of classes are offered at The Cooking School @ Market Bistro?
  • We offer both hands-on and demonstration cooking classes, including classes for children. With a wide variety of themes, classes will be taught by a member of our Cooking School Culinary Team, as well as guests such as local chefs, nutrition experts, and cookbook authors. Classes range from basic cooking to more advanced recipes and skill levels, including ethnic foods, quick meals, appetizers, baking and pastry classes. What should we expect from a typical class?
  • At our hands-on classes, you will work alongside a Cooking School @ Market Bistro culinary instructor or guest chef to complete the selected menu. Learn and use techniques as you prepare recipes, which you will then sit and enjoy. These classes run approximately two to three hours with most adult evening classes including wine or beer pairing for those 21 and over.(All students must show valid ID.)
  • Our Lunch and Learn classes are scheduled from 12 to 1pm. Lunch will be served while students watch a Cooking School @ Market Bistro culinary instructor prepare a delicious meal.
  • For our demonstration classes, you’ll watch as a culinary professional provides an in-depth cooking presentation before having the chance to sample the creations. Classes will vary in length.
  • Children’s classes last between 1 and two hours and are hands-on. Our young chefs will help prepare different recipes they’ll get to enjoy with their fellow students.

I don't know anything about cooking. Can I still take a cooking class?
  • Yes, we welcome participants of all skill levels.
How many people participate in one class?
  • Hands-on classes allow up to 15 students, with our demonstration classes able to accommodate up to 20 students.

How old must you be to participate?
  • The Cooking School @ Market Bistro offers classes for ages 5 and up. Our children’s cooking classes include three levels:
    • Taste Bud classes for children 5-8*
    • Junior Chef classes, ages 9-12
    • Chef Apprentice classes for ages 13-17
    You must be at least 18 to participate in an adult class.
Is it necessary to pre-register for the class?
  • Yes. To ensure a spot in the class, you must register in advance. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I sign up for a class?
  • You can register online by visiting www.marketbistro.com/cookingschool and clicking on the ‘register now’ link shown next to the class(es) you are interested in: by calling the Cooking School at 518-782-0441, Option 1, Press 2, or by stopping by the Cooking School. Payment is required to reserve your place in the class.
What is the registration policy for adult classes?
  • Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Hands-on classes accommodate up to 15 students; demonstration classes accommodate up to 20 students. Payment is required upon registration. All adult students must be age 18 or older. Most adult classes include wine or beer pairings for age 21 and over. Wine and beer pairing classes are for ages 21 and older. Those wishing to consume alcohol must present valid identification. No exceptions.
What is the registration policy for children’s classes?
  • Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 12 students. Payment is required upon registration.
    • Taste Bud: ages 5-8*: A parent or legal guardian must remain in the store.
    • Junior Chef: ages 9-12: A parent or legal guardian is required to drop-off and pick-up the child.
    • Chef Apprentice: ages 13-17: A parent or legal guardian is required to drop-off and pick-up the child.
  • To ensure your child's safety:
    • Parents will need to sign a consent form before their child is allowed to participate.
    • The same adult dropping off your child must pick up your child unless prior arrangement is made with Cooking School Team Leader
    • Photo ID required upon pick up

What is the cancellation/refund policy?
  • By Student: If you are unable to attend a class, you will receive a full refund if you notify the cooking school team leader at least 72 hours prior to the class you are registered for, or you may send a substitute in your place for the class. Unfortunately, refunds will not be issued if cancellation is not received within the time frame stated.
  • By The Cooking School @ Market Bistro: We reserve the right to cancel classes for any reason. If we cancel a class, you will be notified as soon as possible and a complete refund will be issued.

What happens when a class is canceled due to inclement weather?
  • If class needs to be canceled due to safety concerns because of bad weather, each customer will be called at least two hours prior to the start of class. The class will either be rescheduled or a full refund will be given.
What should I prepare for before the start of class?
  • Come prepared to have fun! Cooking classes start on time. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of class to sign in and present proof of registration.Closed-toed shoes should be worn for hands-on classes.Aprons will be provided.
